In Memoriam

The Indiana Seaplane Pilots Association is devastated to report the loss of two most beloved members, founder and President, Randy Strebig, and his new wife, longtime partner, and fellow seasoned seaplane pilot and ISPA member, Allison Wheaton in an aircraft accident on Sunday, November 26, after takeoff from Ludington, MI in a Socata TBM-700.

Randy founded the Indiana Seaplane Pilots Association in 1999, to work cooperatively with the State of Indiana, neighbors, lake users and other stakeholders to open more Indiana waters to safe access via seaplanes.

Allison was an accomplished and experienced seaplane pilot, flying commercial seaplanes for Kenmore Air in Seattle, and as a bush pilot in Alaska.

They met in 2006 and carried on an 18-year romance, wedding in September of 2023.

Both were enthusiastic, adventurous, giving and welcoming individuals who thrilled in sharing the experience of water flying with everyone.

Randy started the annual Indiana Seaplane Splash-In at Pokagon State Park in Angola, IN in 2003, and maintained a perfect safety record for 21 straight years, while demonstrating that seaplanes and other open water users can coexist safely on Indiana’s public waters.

Both Randy and Allison will be sorely missed.
